Major General (Army) José Adelino Ornelas Ferreira has been appointed Chief of the General Staff of the Commander in Chief of the National Armed Forces of Venezuela, replacing General-in-Chief (Army) Jesús Rafael Suárez Chourio. Although the position is not in the command line of the National Armed Forces (FAN), its holder is the high-ranking military officer who is closest to the President of the Republic, on whom he reports directly.
